March 2018
Late this month. It's OK, no change to the charts anyway. This will probably not be the story for April. I just love charting music.
The late winter drags on. I am enjoying music I find, but it has been a long while since I had seen any live music. I just don't have passion to do so. I do not want to be one of those people there who simply stand, wait for a song to complete, then applaud. To me, it's personal - I need to enjoy it, to feel it. Not that I would be in a trance or hypnotized, but still. So if I am not really WANTING in the first place to see live music, I probably see no reason to venture out to do so.
Anyway, I am missing a lot since I see from Facebook feeds that there are local bands out there, some I actually know of, entertaining the masses. I just hate going alone and knowing no one. That's awkward.
I really need to be IN a band. It's possible I am definitely one of those weird, emotionally hard to figure artists. Oh, I am thinking of cutting off my ear.....
No change to this month's music rankings. Exactly a year ago this month the Deftones debuted with "Phantom Bride", a captivating yet somehow simple song. I never quite got "into" that band, even back in the glorious days of alternative rock supremacy. I know a handful of their songs - they do things "differently". Their songs are not crafted to be pop hits, generally. They seem to have a consistently morose sound or theme. I listened to a couple of their albums. They were OK. I like this band, but I am not a huge fan, exactly.
Chevelle charted a year ago (with another of their cool singles), as well as 10 years ago. Has it been a decade since "I Get It"? Damn. That is another band whose albums I've never heard, but know well their radio hits/singles. They haven't gone the creampuff route yet, selling out to put out a ballad or even to go lounge act, thankfully. Maybe they have another few hard rock songs they can grace the ether with.
Star Industry I know from a gothic rock compilation. That is a great song. I always thought the female voice in the bridge seemed to be struggling to get out the lyrics. I think the bridge is great, and it's a brilliant element of the song, versus the man's deeper voice (sorry, I don't know the real terms such as basso, alto, whatever), but I just hear her really pushing out the air. It doesn't ruin the song at all - in fact, it adds some rawness to it.
April is just around the corner. I am still alone. I work so much, and have no friends. I have so little time to maintain any fleeting friendships I may have. Boo hoo, I know. This is my now, and is my future for the next several decades, I guess. I really should create music and see what I can come up with.
