APRIL 2012

Things are moving along nicely with the new full time, "REAL" job which is professional and in my field of study. Not much to complain about there since I can now rebuild my savings, which were destroyed from underemployment for 3 years (!) and graduate classes the last two semesters.

School - that is a different story. I've been taking graduate level classes. I am so weak on the undergrad stuff (being so long since I've seen it!) that I spend way too much time on homework reviewing the basics. I am not sure if pursuing a graduate degree is even worth it at this point.

No car - sold the junker a month or so ago. As far as "junkers" go, that car was in pretty good condition. It just needed so much mechanical work that I did not want to pay for. I don't mind having a car, and saving money I'd otherwise spend on gas, insurance, etc.

But...despite the good news (school notwithstanding), I am still alone. How is it possible to have no friends? I don't even know what people TALK about when they huddle together in a bar or club or wherever. I have...NOTHING to say.

I can't wait to start getting back into music - playing, creating (hopefully), and SEEING live music! Lots going on - Janes Addiction, the Cult, and others are touring. Being middle aged doesnt suck so bad with the resurrection of all these great 80s / 90s bands!

Speaking of Jane's Addiction, the stuff I've heard via youtube from their last album has sounded great! I am surprised that they put out a solid album. Strangely, Perry Farrel used to sing "God is dead" from the song "Had a Dad" (from "Nothing's Shocking"). On the new release, from the song "Immoveable Force" (I think), the lyrics elude to a belief in God. I'll check that out and get back to you, my vast audience of zero!

Anyway, I am excited at the prospect of seeing Jane's Addiction soon. I hope so.

Barely no movement in the Top 5 this month. Finally, a Jane's Addiction song broke through. There will be others from the new album.

But just a year ago...ahhh, lovely Adele stole my heart. And Godsmack making a familiar appearance in the Top 5. Someday I will have to compile statistics and I'm sure Godsmack will be at #1 in many categories.

Back in April 2002, it was the glory days of alternative rock. The charts from that month have a couple euro-techno songs, from VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk. Good stuff - it was great to discover those bands for myself.
