JULY 2014
I never was a summer time person. I just never went to beaches, pools, etc. I always thought people should not be so revealing, too, just because most were ugly.
The last summer that changed a bit. And this summer, too. I have been riding my bike for exercise in areas of the city I NEVER thought I would venture (on a bike). It's an amazing feeling of liberty and mobility, free of charge, and without creating pollution.
And, this year, I actually have been wearing tank tops. I always thought I would look ridiculous in them because in my perspective, I had scrawny arms. Well, I realized they aren't scrawny at all. Not that I'm a narcissist, but they are muscular enough not to look dorky in a tank top. This sounds ridiculous, but someone would have to understand the feeling of freedom this brings - to feel the wind and sun on areas of the body that hardly ever have had those feelings. To me, its a great feeling....of comfort, and in a way, freedom.
I'm not quite ready to ride around naked yet.
So I love the summer for this reason - that I like riding my bike, or even going on vigorous, long walks (of 4 miles or more) to sweat, burn calories, stay fit, and to feel good.
Having said that, school sucks. This is yet another class (which ends early August, thankfully) that is a requirement and which I will never use. After all these years, I STILL am not sure I like the field I am in....or if I could EVER really like fully any line of work.
My terrible, almost debilitating episodes of self-doubt, frustration/depression, and just sadness still happen once in a while. It usually comes from my interactions with people. For some reason, I always leave open a door where people are free to throw verbal jabs or insults at me, or to make some disparaging remarks. Why is this? I am actually nice to people, supportive, positive-minded with their endeavors ("You bought a house? Wow, congratulations!"...). I never get that back.
I don't feel like rehashing what happened at work this week, when I really, truly, wanted to rearrange the face of some punk ass kid who thinks he is the coolest thing ever to grace the earth. He made me question - no....I LET him make me question everything I do - my acting, my comedy, and I started to imagine myself as a big joke doing this stuff.
After more than a day, I got back on the proverbial horse and refound some self-confidence. I hope so, anyway - tonight is our improve class' show, and I really would like to do some funny stuff.
Regardless...the music has been great. After a lull in the early part of 2014 (similarly to the early part of 2013), I have found and have been enjoying some cool music of various genres. "Hurricane" is a nice song. Obviously, I like it, since it is #1. But then there is the pretty cool heavy metal "Meltdown". This band (Love and Death) did a cover of Devo's "Whip It" some time ago and it is great. They won't turn the music world on its ear, but they have good songs, from what I found on youtube.
I completely forgot "Phantom Limb"! I hadn't been listening to it, since it wasn't on my youtube playlist of current favorites. So without reinforcing its greatness, it HAD to slip down to #3. That sucks - I would have liked to have Alice in Chains score another #1. And it would have, since the song is still fresh to me, and not worn and over-listened to. The song will probably be in the Top 5 for some time, though.
"Wishful" is a very poppy song that has a beautifully sung chorus. This song is further evidence to me that current music is reminiscent of the 1980s pop landscape! It really is. When the scene changes is when people may remark on that, and realize that the post 2010 to 2014 (maybe longer?) period was a cool one with themes of happiness. This is the 1980s, for the most part - until the 1990s and grunge and hard alternative showed up (which I loved! but I'm just illustrating my point).
Well, homework, and then the class show tonight.......
