JULY 2012
'Sweatin' to the oldies', one might say in these dog days of summer. 'Sweatin'" was an aerobics/exercise routine from maybe 10 years ago. Anyway, yea, this is one hot summer, and we are barely into it.
Recently I completed a small part in a movie, and I acted in a play. For the former - fun, and I was lucky enough to use the day on set to cement some acquaintanceships - well, they can't call them 'friendships' exactly, and I doubt they were 'cemented'. but I saw movie crew I had worked with in the past. That's a good thing, because they might keep me in mind for future roles.
For the latter - the play - well, that was OK. Good and bad. Mostly negative - this was a dinky play that wasn't even very good. Some of the people were so hard to deal with. They were always stressed, curt, and swearing.....it's ok, it was decent acting experience, although a small role (as usual).
I have an audition coming up for a one act play. I have two weeks to get a monologue ready, and hopefully i can avoid using just 3 hours to prepare one, like i always do. i really have to work a bit to elevate myself to be a better actor. ive come a long way, but its going to be crap roles that no one else will want to do for free unless I take it more seriously.
The job...ah, the job. The honeymoon is over on that one. I hate the job right now...every Monday I go in, knowing I'm lucky to be working and wanting to enjoy it. Then I realize how stupid it is - all meetings. Is that my role? Just to sit in meetings about boring shit like contracts and funding and stuff....? I'd rather DO something, design something.....I'm done thinking about work for now.
Music...More than a year since releasing their last album, geriatric - rockers BLONDIE!!! gets their FOURTH song in my Top 5. The CD is sort of cheesy - there was little doubt that this would not be widely heard, like the last two from them. But it's quite good - I probably stated that last year. I'm thinking there might be one or two MORE songs from that album that will hit my Top 5! I will get the CD out one of these days for a fresh listen...
Jane's Addiction - kudos to them, too, for being middle-aged and still having passion in their music. They are at the #1 position - do you understand how MONUMENTAL that is to have the top spot in my chart?!?! haha.
"In the Fog" is just beautiful. I think it's strength with me is that the video linked is Parts I, II, and III, about 12 minutes long. So you don't really listen to it after a few times - you absorb it while thinking of something else, with occasional attention returning to it. That's it advantage - it's length, and therefore my enjoyment of it. I've always liked weird instrumentals like that - only recently "Implodes" was #1.
Yea, it was about a year ago when Adele rocked my world. I never thought twice about her before that album "21". Then "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You" just floored me, especially since I was breaking up with someone at the time, and I was devastated that I hurt that person's feelings.
Drink lots of water....
