May 2018

I am at a strange peace.  I went to church tonight, and as usual, my mind strayed for most of it.  Sorry, but I have some kind of adult deficit disorder thing.  At least I went.  I do take spirituality seriously.  I can honestly say I have my doubts ANYTHING about it is true, but at the same time, my mind finds justification about the existence of God.  Hmmm...nah, will delve into it in a future posting, maybe.

Well, I took a scalding hot shower after re-reading my previous month's post.  Yes, with clear conscious I was involved in meaningless encounters, but I wince when I read what sounds like gloating about it.  I probably will never have a long lasting, deep relationship.  I think I've known this for over 2 decades. I just can't do it - I am damaged in a way and that is why marriage will never happen, I guess.

But that in no way means a life is mis-used. You can still touch people deeply (I am restraining to make a frat boy comment here, ha!), and bring love to a community in small ways, and hopefully from there it will go viral and people will be more loving.

No doubt about it, Mastodon hits #1 again from their recent album.  This pales in comparison to the album before THAT one, "Once More Round the Sun", but still a good showing.  I really have to give that CD (yes, I am old school) a spin again.  At the time, I was a little left of being of a metal mind.

Lately, I have been straying back to goth-type bands I know and love from the 80s and 90s, like Bauhaus, the Chameleons (UK), and The Catherine Wheel.  Or maybe its just because I haven't enjoyed them in a while, and their music is fresh again.

I am not a fan of 21 Pilots at all, but "Heavy Dirty Soul" is a good cut.  I can't stand other songs of theirs I have heard on FM radio.

"Conscious" is an instrumental that is wickedly haunting and morose.  Now for anyone who has followed this blog (that is like zero people on a planet of several billion), you know I take to stuff like this.  It is just beautiful.  I forgot how I found out about it.

So there it is for this month, my five most listened to songs.

A decade ago, I loved "Because of You", by Battery Cage.  That is a song that can go ANY genre, I think. It's perfect in that form, though - whatever you call that....industrial?

And of course a year ago, it was the great "Phantom Bride", a song with guitar input - no, with great guitar playing! - by the incredibly underrated Jerry Cantrell.  I love Alice in Chains, both in the Layne Staley era of course, and now with...um, sorry, forgot his name!

I hope you have a good spring, dear readers - it has finally arrived and the temperatures have been perfect.  The pollen - killer, but at least we have ascended above the 50sF.
