DECEMBER 2010

Well, the charts have been a bit constipated lately. Since early September, I was very busy cramming for exams and so on. I just hadn't enjoyed music the last few months. That is probably the first time since my pre-teen years I didn't look for, embrace, or otherwise enjoy new music over such a length of time. Well, it seems the proverbial laxative is taking effect - fresh songs rear their heads. There is a lot of good music out there, true dat. It's all subjective, though - it's what's in your heart, your head, your state of mind, your place in the world. All of this usually (but not always) determines how someone perceives the arts. So without further ado, December 2010's top 5 songs, and only 20 days late, unlike the previous two months... DECEMBER 2010 1. SEPTEMBER 2010

Ahhhh, September. Chilly nights, tolerable day time temperatures. And...not a lot of time devoted to listening to music, or discovering new stuff. The chart had so little activity at all, like Congress trying to deal with the deficit and the debt. Remember "Every Time I Look Around"? What a great little song! I never knew anything about Jawbox, but remember well "Spoiler", a very raw, rocking song that sounds like it was LA punk-influenced (in my estimation). Some months I more enjoy reminiscing the old charts rather than the current stuff. SEPTEMBER 2010 1. "Good Day to Die", by Godsmack 1, 1, 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqcNgHbPRSg 2. AUGUST 2010

The summer is almost over. I am in cruise control - enjoying life with few nagging issues, and appreciating this time for its simplicity and lack of drama. The new person in my life (I may have hinted to in last month's post) is amazing. It has been a good relationship thus far. I miss the anger and angst, though. haha. Still, a Godsmack song like "Good Day to Die" debuts at #1! So there - love won't turn me into a creampuff! Besides that, there was no significant movement in the Top 5 this month. But the archives? I miss those times - such great music all around, both in 2000 and 1997! The Blondie cover "Shayla" by Berlin vs. Meeks was a lot of fun at the time. It's from a tribute album to Blondie done by obscure bands that were rather goth-like. The CD was titled "Platimum Girl: A Tribute to Blondie". It's pretty cool. AUGUST 2010 1. JULY 2010

It's so weird - you could never possibly know when someone or something new and exciting will walk into your life. When that happens, things change instantaneously - your mood, your taste in music, the way you take on the day. I'm happy, strangely enough. ha. Well, Godsmack hits #1! Alice in Chains took a beating, with one song dropping out, and the other being knocked from #1 after only a week there. "Crying Like a Bitch" was just too strong this past month. And in August, Godsmack's latest album (which is very, very good, I might add), may have one or two other songs making the almightly Top 5. Chevelle, again, gives a great song. It took a while to break in, since I was so consumed with AIC the last few months. And "Odd One" is a great song I hum to myself at work when I'm ready to kill a particular individual there who is a pain in the butt: "....it's gonna be OK...!" Has it been a YEAR since that great Silversun Pickups CD rocked

JUNE 2010

I'm excited to enjoy the summer - at least two trips to various amusement parks, i'll see a major league baseball game for the first time in YEARS, and a trip or two to the country or woods for camping or just a day of escape. So, without further adieu, the top 5, for June, 2010: JUNE 2010 1. "It's Your Decision", by Alice in Chains 3, 1, 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIGw2Wg88Ns 2. MAY 2010

2010 slogs on. Life has changed drastically in one year, since May 2009. I mean, in almost every aspect - what I do for a living, my attitudes, my values...all as a result of being displaced by the recession. And I never thought I would let my job affect who I "realy am". The jokes on me. It's all for the better, though, because I've learned a lot about myself this last year. I've taken hobbies and even second jobs I never would have been motivated to do. The music world continues to be, for me, an escape. It's been great the last year, with so much good music from bands I love. Godsmack just released a new one, too! I suspect I'll be seeing some of their stuff on the chart in the upcoming months. ;) TWO from Alice in Chains within the top 3! The Silversun Pickups are still representin', and the French band Phoenix has their delightful song breaking in. I suspect this is the only song I'll ever hear from them, but let's just enjoy what we have,

APRIL 2010

Well, April is here. I can see the overcast on my spirits recede. Maybe actually seeing the sun has something to do with it. Warmer weather, all of that. Keeping busy helps. I have been incredibly busy with 3 jobs and doing some acting on the side as well. Now for my picky comments...! I had to look up the Metallica song. I honestly didn't remember it, and now I know why. Metallica is great, but that particular song wasn't that memorable - not bad, but not a killer song. It didn't last long, as I peeked ahead on what I recorded a decade ago! Alice in Chains hits #1! It has some strong competition, though, from Alberta Cross' song, and Chevelle's new single, which probably will storm my top 5 next month! But the very nice and almost mellow "It's Your Decision" breaks in. It's a thought-provoking song. Ah, nice to have AIC back. I raved about the Silversun Pickups last June or July - there are even a few more songs from their most recent album that a

MARCH 2010

February is behind us - endless snow, snow, snow. Wamer weather, and hopefully, happier times, are on the way. I am so utterly alone its ridiculous. I've tried everything, but I can't forge friendships. I'd like a place to go, to visit. People to enjoy being around. I'm so lost it's pathetic. I heard Alberta Cross' song on digital cable. It blew me away. I love guitar effects, in ANY genre - if its a effect, it will move me! I checked out some of their other songs on youtube.com - they are good. In a different era, they'd be stars by now. But with the saturation of media, they are lost in the jumble, I think. I didn't make a mistake - both the March 2000 and 2009 charts were identical to their respective Februarys. MARCH 2010 1. "Jars", by Chevelle 1, 1, 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV-L24ZaPrY 2. FEBRUARY 2010

2010 slogs on - one month down, 11 more miserable ones to go. I can't believe how my mood has changed. Even with just recording my top songs. No one may ever seen this blog, but still, it was fun to just let loose in my virtual world, to myself, if to no one else. But now I'm just mentally tired of life in general. Of course people have had it worse than I do, but it's not as if I've always been unappreciative of the luxuries I DO have, like central heat and air conditioning, and so on. I just feel like a waste of life. Did I just type that!?! I'm just find little reason to enjoy being alive. Oh well.... ....Godsmack pretty much ruled my charts over the early part of this past decade. In February 2000, they had TWO songs in the top five; both eventually became #1s! Im not very gaga over any band anymore, one reason being my age - you sort of lose unbridled enthusiasm as you get older. that's ok, it's understandable. but there will always be a place in my

JANUARY 2010

A new year, a new decade. Can I be any less enthused? I simply hate my life right now. I am unemployed, bored, without any real friends, confused, aimless, oppressed, ugly, uninspired, unmotivated, and without lack of adjectives! Well, Alice got another top five song. I think from the new album, a third might show itself. Three top five songs from one CD is pretty good (as if this were all real - haha!). Anyway, thank you Jerry Cantrell for "Private Hell" - it is sweetly opiatic, soothing, and yet in that way some bands like AIC does, strokes the anxiety and inner torment that boils inside me like a fairy tale witch's cauldron. "life is short"....mine seems to drag on endlessly, mercilessly. Here are my top five songs for this month.... JANUARY 2010 1.
