DECEMBER 2009

This month's list is almost three weeks late. I have been very preoccupied and kept putting this off. I am trying very hard to find some christmas spirit deep in the recesses of my dark, black soul... But anyway, looky here who is at #2!!! ***ALICE IN CHAINS*** The new CD is pretty good - not their best, but hardly a disappointment! By next month, another song from the new CD might enter the almighty Top 5! Also, "Jars" debuts, and its in very strong standing. It may catapult to #1 next month. I love the song - at this time, its my favorite current song. Here are my top five songs for December 2009, and the other lists from the past: DECEMBER 2009 1. "Never Gonna Give Your Teen Spirit Up", by Nirvana vs. Rick Astley, thriftshopxl 1, 1, 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN75im_us4k 2. "Check My Brain", by Alice in Chains -, 2, 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZTQ7xlFFA8 3. "It's Nice to Know You Work Alone" by Silversun Pickups 2, 1, 5

The year drags on. It's been months since I've been employed full-time. Gettin' a little antsy here, you know? With rhyme and reason, I give you my top 5 songs for November... NOVEMBER 2009 1. October 2009

Lovin' the autumn! I don't have much to say this month. Yes, a VIDEO, and not a 'real' song, debuts at #1. Credit is given to the youtube user who, i presume, produced this mashup of the 1980s Rick Astley hit and the immortal "Smells Like Teen Spirit". I think that amazingly, it works well together. I actually prefer THIS version to the original "Smells".... "Use Somebody" is a nice song. I will probably tire of it, and it might be gone by the end of October, but for now it satisfies the glum and somber sense I've been carrying around for weeks. Anyway, numerous fans, here you go, my top 5 songs for October... OCTOBER 2009 1. "Never Gonna Give Your Teen Spirit Up", by Nirvana vs. Rick Astley, thriftshopxl -, 1, 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN75im_us4k 2. September, 2009

Autumn! Cooler weather...ahhhh. It's nice to leave the house in the early morning and be tickled by the cool air, instead of being mugged by the wet, tropical humidity of August. Another song by the Silversun Pickups. They own the Top 5! "Panic Switch" was the early single from the album. It only grew on me after I got the CD, though. At first I didnt even like it that much. Or, it didn't grab me for some reason. Check out September 1999! GODSMACK. They pretty much dominated my charts for a few years. That is simply because they had great songs, one after another, on three successive releases. I saw them live a couple of years ago and I'm glad I paid all that cash for the ticket. It was wonderful. Sully Erna strives to entertain, that's for sure. Hope you all had a good summer. Historically, I usually travel after Labor Day. So this month, I will probably take a vacation. Nothing elaborate, of course, since I'm going on four months of unemployment at this

August, 2009

It's been a rough summer on a number of levels. I've been unemployed for several months now. I'm working a pretty crappy temp job. My personal relationships are suffering because they just arent working out for me. I feel I'm taken advantage of, or in the least, not really valued by certain people. But alas, the world of music! It's my savior. Here it is, for August, 2009...also with the chart from a year ago, from a decade ago, and from 1996. I include 1996 because that is when I started doing this and I want to document it in a blog so I can trash the note cards I've kept for 13+ years! It's fascinating to me to see what I was really into so long ago! I mean - "psychic hearts" in 1996 - that brings back some memories of a girl I really liked. My life could be worse- I could have married that annoying wench! Last year I really enjoyed the legendary Bauhaus' last album. They are the grandfathers of goth, and one of my favorite bands. Som

July, 2009

Been listening and enjoying almost every track from "Swoon", by the Silversun Pickups. It's wonderful. I imagine I may get sick of it. Nobody that I know that is my age can name one song from this amazing band. Next month just might see all five positions held by the Silversun Pickups and In Flames. If I actually buy a cd, chances are that band will get more opportunities to chart more songs in my coveted, world famous, trend-setting Top 5. The song title is followed by group name. The first digit is the previous ranking. The second one is the highest rank attained, and the third digit is the total number of weeks in the top 5. JULY 2009 1. "The Royal We", by Silversun Pickups 5, 1, 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7wZhURS7X8 2. "Disconected" by In Flames 1, 1, 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWTRKlTG8KY 3. "The Hungry Ghost", by The Cure 2, 1, 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m2_ohAWk6g 4. "Break Me Down", by Seether 3, 3, 3 htt

June, 2009

This month's is late, sorry, all none of you! Not a lot happened, except for a new entry by the Silversun Pickups. I expect they will dominate my top 5 for the remainder of the year, because the new CD is full of good songs. I love the new CD. There is something about "Disconnected" that really grabbed me. I do enjoy some metal, particularly Killswitch Engage, and a host of old skool stuff (Dio, Sabbath, Priest), but the modern bands, not so much. This song by In Flames really speaks to me, though...Ahem, and I quote (and apologies for anyone who is offended by some language): "I feel like shit/but at least I feel something". OK, not exactly shakespeare, but its a clever quip nonetheless. A year ago I was heavy into "I Get It", by Chevelle. I love that song. The song title is followed by group name. The first digit is the previous ranking. The second one is the highest rank attained, and the third digit is the total number of weeks in the top 5. JU

May, 2009

This is my first posting. I chart my favorite songs on a monthly basis. I've been doing this for years. I'm just weird and get enjoyment from doing this for some reason. In this blog, I will post my current top 5 songs, the top 5 songs from a year ago, and the top 5 from 13 years ago, which is when I started this madness! (In certain years, there were some months in a row where I neglected the series.) I will occasionally drop a few words on my thoughts. Nothing heavy-- if you want politics, look elswhere. The paranormal? There are many, many blogs dealing with that already. Sports? I'm not faithful enough to keep up with sports outside of the football season. How do I chart these songs? I just use my judgement as to which I had enjoyed the most. Sometimes a song can go on momentum- if I'm thinking of it/singing it for days on end, it will thrust into the top 5 easily if I'm sick of or tired of the ones already there. Some songs might grow on me, and may ascend slow
